Heritage Inspiration

Roots run deep for me.  In my home I have incorporated things from my childhood and my heritage.  One's heritage is a great place to look for inspiration when creating a place that feels like home.

Dala Horses have always been part of my life and today, in honor of my grandmother, I am sharing them with you.

The above photo is a classic Swedish Dala horse and I have several of different sizes nestled in various nooks in my home. I had been saving some examples of the Dala horse in other settings in my Evernote folder for several months.  Yesterday my Gramma passed away at the age of 107 and I realized I'd been collecting these images for today.

Pillows available at cafepress.com

The horses come in all sizes and colors and even as roosters and pigs.  They have been around for centuries and probably originated in the early 1700's. There is a history about them at the Hemlslojd site were they can also be purchased in many, many sizes.

Are there any items in your home that are from your family history?  Those roots make families strong and a house a home.

Gramma, you will be missed. Godspeed.

  1. Gramma was a great lady. We'll all miss her.

You missed one great photo though. You need to add the one of Gramma's great great grandson cavorting with the Ikea Dala horse.
