Wanderings • Vermont Route 100

We just returned from a quick road trip along the center section of scenic Route 100 in Vermont. What a treat and I recommend it for an inspirational get away - especially for those of you that love Brimfield. David and I were lucky to receive an invitation from friends to spend the night in their rustic cabin located on Route 100 outside of Rochester (thanks S and J!) I only had about 24 hours of time away but it was clear - I could easily have enjoyed much more. Here are some of the photos to show you the charm and variety of incredible sights for the DIY'ers, collectors and decorators among us.

Just about every town along the way had an old general store that had been repurposed as a funky restaurant or eclectic contemporary craft gallery.

And many of the homes lining each Main Street had beautiful flower displays and home-crafted authentic Americana.

We were traveling right after July 4th and Patriotism was evident everywhere.

There are many small restaurants in quaint old buildings serving huge breakfasts and tasty lunches. The pace was often slow, relaxing and the food was terrific.

Outside of the towns hugging the road were shops, barns and yards filed with collectibles, old, musty, charming and in need of new homes and the attention of creativity of DIY'ers.

 

But also along Route 100 you will find high end craftsmen making exceptional, custom furniture, sculpture, and art as well. Clear Lake Furniture outside of Ludlow is worth investigating.

We traveled Route 100 from 103 in Ludlow up to Waitsfield. We'll go back to expand the exploration to both ends of Route 100 plus detours through Queechee, Woodstock, and Middlebury as well.
