Lettered Pillows

Honestly, 90% of the lettered pillows I found are cutsey. Probably ok for one's daughter's room when she is between the ages of 4 and 8.

Except there was one post that caught my eye and made me think differently!

I first saw this very tweedy a and k on Your Decorating Hotline. I just love the classic, countrified ambience of these very proper pillows.  The addition of the buttons and a slight indication of a collar just adds to the attraction. I explored further. This is what I found...

I love them all in their restrained puffiness. These pillows are made from repurposed tweed jackets and flannel shirts. They are from so chic gifts.

Vintage Letterpress 2

One of my favorite ways of introducing letters into decor is with vintage letterpress parts.  These are the various type pieces used in the printing presses of previous times.  Here are some examples.

The first is a wall collage of individual letter press type pieces artfully arranged. Note all letters are in reverse for letter press.

The above project is a DIY project. Letter press blocks are often available through Ebay and Etsy shops but also at Vintage fairs like Brimfield.

The visual impact of letter press parts is the design theme of this wall paper pattern by Wall and Déco. It is a great pattern for an accent wall - certainly not for an entire room!

This next example fooled me.  At first glance I had assumed it was made from letterpress blocks but it isn't.  The letters aren't backwards.  Doesn't matter, it has the essence of vintage letter press and is a great design for a tiny drawer set.

It is designed by Kent and London from the UK.

On a much more affordable level is this letterpress collage available at the Etsy shop BSHousley. It includes the abbreviations of the United Sates.

Wall Letters

I am avoiding words on walls here. Personally I don't like full words displayed in decor like Love, Hope, Peace, etc.  But I find just letters a whole different can of worms.  I do like those. Here are some examples....

In this first example I especially love the variety in scale and material yet the restraint in color.  It creates in impromptu work of art on this dining room wall.

This example is a wonderful, whimsical idea for a child's room. It's not a word exactly. I did find that a very large percentage of all letter decor was in children's rooms.

Here is a subtly in color and similarity in size but still the shapes create a punch in the corner of this home office.

Nice combination of vintage items.  Looks like they have been shopping at Brimfield!
