Little Houses in My Laundry Room

I have shared many posts with you about the process of taking my laundry room from studs and insulation to a amazing new space. (How often do you hear someone speak glowingly of their laundry room?) When I last posted I said that adding décor touches and artwork was still on the to-do list. Well, this weekend I completed my first craft project for the room. I now have a "Ledge Village" cut from paper residing on my ironing board ledge.

Using the software on my Silhouette machine along with a drawing program, I designed and then cut three tiny houses and arranged them in street fashion along the ledge installed to hold my hidden ironing board in place. I have been collecting tiny house pins on Pinterest for months and knew this was leading to a project. Once the ledge was designed into the room, I started thinking about what to put on it.

Houses, of course! And to complete the scene I added two trees (same ones as in my birch centerpiece) and the line filled with drying clothes blowing in the breeze.

This little street scene is tiny. Here is a view with the electric outlet to give you a good idea as to scale.

I designed a series of different houses and learned that gable end view worked best in this application. I went on to design 3 different structures including a country cottage...

A Greek Revival styled home....

And a two story town house.....

But the fun is in the details including the picket fence, pine trees and laundry.

And I kept the entire scene white to match the room.

Still exploring my Silhouette and learning the software. I will work on the tutorial over the next couple of days and post that so you can see the process.

Update: The tutorial is live. Click here for the step-by-step process.

First craft project for the laundry room done. At least two more to go!
